Ingredients Used to Make Strawberry Chia Jam
- Strawberries: I’ve found frozen strawberries tend to work the best, but fresh are also fine!
- Pure maple syrup: This jam is lightly sweetened with pure maple syrup. You can use honey or agave instead.
- Chia seeds: Chia seeds are the key ingredient for this pectin-free jam. I like to buy mine in bulk online!
- Optional flavor extract: While you don’t need it, I like to add a splash of vanilla extract to my jam. Orange, almond, or lemon would all be tasty as well! Start with ¼ teaspoon and add more to taste.
How to Make Chia Seed Jam
- Start by placing your strawberries and maple syrup in a large saucepan. The bigger the pan, the faster your jam will boil and thicken thanks to the extra surface area.
- Cook you berries on medium heat – they should come to a light boil. Boil for about 10 minutes, or until you can easily mash them.
- After mashing, stir in chia seeds and boil for 1 more minute.
- After than minute, remove pan from heat and add vanilla extract (if using). Let the jam cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a glass jar. By then, the jam should be nice and thick.
- Cover jar and store in the refrigerator.
How long does chia seed jam keep?
When stored in an airtight container, this strawberry chia seed jam should last for up to 2 weeks.
